About The Book:

Half-frozen, Philippa stumbles on a derelict ice house, finding shelter with other young tramps in a jungle bossed by an odd trio of foreigners. Beyond the walls an uncanny blizzard howls. Inside, however, is a greater mystery. Late in the night she sees it, a bright gateway to another world, one without night, with neither hunger nor cold--just before the gate collapses, sparking a deadly fire. In the ashes Philippa swears to find a way to this paradise, this Canaan, for them all. Stretching a gift for sensing weather into something else entirely, she earns the loyalty of her companions on a dangerous journey toward hope.

Lynda's Review:

I wanted to give this book a higher rating from the beginning, but alas, I just can't. It's a good story premise that never seemed to come together. Part historical, part science fiction, this story never really connected the dots in a way that made a cohesive story. On the up side, the historical parts seemed well researched and the writer's style is elegant and easy to read.
