Character interview with Corey Donovan of PAYBACK IN WAYBACK

Corey Donovan is the lead character in the story, PAYBACK IN WAYBACK. He’s a man with a bitter past and a doubtful future. He did consent to answering a few questions about his return to Wayback, Texas. Let’s hear what Mr. Donovan has to say...

Question:
You’ve just returned to Wayback, Texas after serving a twelve year prison sentence. You said at your trial that you were innocent and, in fact, had been framed. Do you still stand behind that statement?

Answer:
I’ve just lost twelve years of my life for a crime I didn’t commit. Having said that, will it change anything, give me back those years? Lady Justice is said to be blind and impartial. But, in reality, she can be swayed by the weight of money and power. As I’ve learned, innocence can be bought and sold.

Question:
Since you’ve returned to the very town where the alleged crime was perpetrated, are you here to prove your innocence or to exact vengeance?

Answer:
Wayback, Texas is my home. Where better to get on with my life? Vengeance is a strong word with a violent context. I’d be a fool to forfeit the rest of my life in such a pursuit. But justice, on the other hand, well...who of us doesn’t reach for that option when cornered?

Question:
Rumor has it that a girl was involved twelve years ago. Is that true, and if so, are you looking for her in Wayback?

Answer:
Would you look for a woman who left you to rot in a Texas prison for the best years of your youth?

Question:
If you were to find such a woman, what kind of justice would you seek?

Answer:
I’ve come home to Wayback to start over...however, a little payback would go a long way in removing the bitterness of twelve forgotten years.

You can read Corey Donovan's story and meet the woman who could have saved him those twelve troubled years. Why didn't she? And what secret has she hidden from Corey for the past twelve years? Find those answers Here.
